45,000 Litre 8-Compartment 3 Axle Beam-Type Fuel Tanker Semi Trailer

Tongya builds this 8-compartment fuel tanker semi trailer as a 45,000 litre barrel divided into 8 independent compartments, carried on a welded Q345B I-beam chassis and running on three 13-tonne axles with 315/80R22.5 tyres. The tank shell is 5 mm Q235 steel with 6 mm end plates, closed by aluminium alloy manhole covers and served by aluminium pneumatic bottom safety valves and a 4-inch API discharge valve. Eight compartments let one trailer deliver eight separate fuel or oil grades on a single trip, with no cross-contamination between bays.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

What “8-compartment beam-type” means on this trailer

The two words describe two separate engineering decisions, and both of them matter to a fuel distributor.

Beam-type means the barrel is carried: the tank sits on a full-length welded I-beam chassis made of Q345B high-tensile low-carbon alloy steel, with the main beams welded by the automatic submerged arc process. The kingpin, landing gear, axles and suspension are all mounted to those beams. Running loads from the road travel through the chassis frame into the beams rather than through the tank shell alone, and the barrel can be separated from the chassis if either needs repair.

Eight compartments means the 45,000 litre volume is split by internal bulkheads into eight sealed bays. Each bay is closed by its own aluminium alloy manhole cover and served by its own pneumatic bottom valve, so product leaving bay 3 has never been in contact with product in bay 7. That is what allows one trailer to work as a multi-grade delivery unit instead of a single-product tank.

The combination is a practical one for export markets where a distributor must serve several fuel grades, several customer sites and several metering points from one vehicle and one driver.

45,000 Litre 8-Compartment 3 Axle Beam-Type Fuel Tanker Semi Trailer

45,000 litre beam-type fuel tanker semi trailer built by Tongya Automobile Co., Ltd. The barrel is carried on a welded I-beam chassis with the running gear, kingpin and landing gear mounted to the main beams. Compartment volume markings run along the top walkway; the volume split across the eight bays is set on the order drawing.

Why an 8-compartment fuel tanker semi trailer beats a four-bay barrel

Compartment count is a commercial decision before it is a fabrication one. A four- or five-bay barrel suits a single-grade operation: one load, one discharge point. An eight-bay barrel suits the opposite duty cycle.

  • Multiple grades on one trip. Diesel, gasoline, kerosene or Jet A-1, lubricating oil and hydraulic oil can travel together, because each grade stays inside its own sealed bay with its own manhole and bottom valve.
  • Smaller, more frequent drops. Serving eight farm depots, eight construction sites or eight retail forecourts from one load reduces the number of trips per delivery round — the driver loads once and discharges eight times.
  • No cross-contamination. Segregation is the whole point of a multi-compartment barrel: the bulkheads keep products physically apart, so a change of grade does not require cleaning the previous compartment.
  • Metering and billing per bay. Where a customer needs a metered or invoiced quantity that differs by product or by receiving site, a bay-per-product layout makes the loading and unloading sequence unambiguous.
  • Part-load flexibility. A distributor can fill only the bays they need today and leave the rest empty, rather than hauling dead volume.

One honest trade-off: more bulkheads mean more internal structure and more valves, and each bulkhead is a weld that must survive years of load cycles and sloshing. That is one reason the beam-type chassis is a sensible partner for an eight-bay barrel — see the section below.

Running gear of the 45,000 litre trailer: three 13-tonne axles in dual-tyre fitment on 315/80R22.5 tyres with 9.0-22.5 rims, mounted to the welded beam chassis. Axle brand is FUWA, and the tyres, hubs, brake chambers and fenders are common service parts in most markets.

The beam-type chassis, and what it does for an eight-bay barrel

An eight-compartment tank contains seven internal bulkheads. Every bulkhead is a circumferential weld between the dividing plate and the shell, and each one is a point where stress concentrates. On a frameless, load-bearing barrel the shell itself carries the bending and torsion of the loaded vehicle, so those welds see the full structural load cycle as well as the sloshing of the liquid behind them.

On this trailer the load path is different. The Q345B I-beam chassis, welded by the automatic submerged arc process, takes the structural loads from the kingpin, landing gear and suspension brackets and spreads them along the frame before they reach the tank cradle. The barrel is carried rather than integrated, so the shell is not the primary structural member and the bulkhead welds are not asked to carry the vehicle's bending moment as well as the cargo.

The practical results, and what they are worth to an operator:

  • Longer shell and bulkhead life on high-mileage duty, because the shell is working under lower stress and the frame keeps barrel distortion small and repeatable.
  • Better behaviour when part-loaded. With eight bays a trailer rarely runs full in both directions. A rigid underframe, plus a wider three-axle rear group, keeps the combination settled when some bays are empty and the rest are full.
  • Serviceable structure. The tank can be separated from the chassis for repair, and damage to the underframe does not automatically compromise the barrel.
  • Familiar repair profile. Axles, suspension, brake chambers and valves are standard components that local workshops already know.

The honest counterpoint: a frame adds tare weight that a frameless barrel does not carry. If your payload is limited by weight rather than by volume, that penalty is real and worth calculating against a frameless design. If your payload is limited by the litres you can move per trip, the durability gains come at little cost.

Axles, tyres and running gear

The running gear is deliberately conventional, because a fuel trailer that depends on unusual components is a fuel trailer that sits in a workshop waiting for parts.

  • Three 13-tonne axles (FUWA brand). Three axles spread the gross weight over six tyre positions instead of four, which lowers the load carried by each axle and tyre, improves braking balance and gives more headroom to use the permitted gross weight of the combination.
  • 315/80R22.5 tyres on 9.0-22.5 rims, fitted in dual-tyre configuration on every axle. This is the size the trailer is designed around, and it is one of the most widely stocked truck tyre sizes in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, so replacements are rarely a sourcing problem.
  • TONGYA 28T landing gear and a JOST 2.0 inch kingpin, the two parts that decide how the trailer couples to the tractor. Both are standard catalogue items.
  • Mechanical suspension as standard, with air suspension available for operations that want lower shock input into the barrel and constant ride height as load changes.

  • Pumping and metering — self-priming or gear pumps, and single-count, double-count or tax-controlled dispensing meters, can be specified for mobile refuelling work.
  • Axle brand — Tongya or FUWA.
  • Colour and livery — produced to the customer's requirement, with OEM production available for distributors and dealers.
  • Market-specific equipment — additional valves, guards and documentation to suit the destination country's requirements.

How to order, and what to send us

An 8-compartment fuel tanker semi trailer is configured around the way you actually deliver, so the quotation starts from your operating detail rather than from a stock list. Send the following and we will come back with a specification and price:

  1. Total volume and the split across the eight bays — for example 45,000 litres with the split weighted towards the grades you move most.
  2. The products you will carry — petrol, diesel, kerosene or Jet A-1, lubricants, edible oils, or a combination.
  3. Discharge arrangement — pump and metering requirements, and whether you need top-fill, bottom-load or both.
  4. Quantity, destination port and Incoterms — FOB, CFR or CIF. Payment is by T/T or L/C.
  5. Your tractor's fifth wheel — 2.0 inch or 3.5 inch kingpin.
  6. Destination country, so we confirm which market-specific equipment and documents apply.
